Taking Action

For this project I had to learn how to do 3 different skateboarding tricks which were:

1. Frontside 180

2. Pop Shove it

3. Heelflip.

For each of these tricks I would have to use the same skills just in a different way. For example all of these tricks used the Ollie, which is a classic and most common trick in the world of skateboarding.

The equipment needed for this product was a skateboard , my phone which was used as a camera and an editing software to edit all the videos.

Frontside 180

I achieved how to do the Frontside 180 by watching many different tutorials on Youtube which explained the right techniques to do this trick and explained how to perform it step by step. I started to practice this trick and my first step was to practice rotating on the board when riding at medium speed. I did this until I got comfortable to the board. Then I started practicing the Ollie, which I could roughly already do and master it since the Ollie is one of the most important trick to master before performing any other trick. Then once I mastered this I started practicing rotating the board in the air and landing it. After practicing this trick for 3 hours for 5 days I finally mastered this trick and accomplished to do one trick.

Pop Shove it

I achieved how to do the Pop shove it by also watching many different tutorials to know the different techniques. I realised that this trick was very similar to the Frontside 180 so the techniques were similar.  I firstly started with the very basic which was to get the scooping kind of motion so that I know how to rotate the board. This is when I just practiced rotating the board with just 1 foot on it. I put my back foot on the tail of the skateboard (curvy side)  so that I could push it down to make the board jump. At the same time, I had to make a kind of scooping motion with my foot so that the board jumps in the air and rotates 180 degrees at the same time.  Once I had gotten comfortable at this, I practiced a bit more of my ollie and then I tried to combine the rotation that I  practiced together with the ollie. I noticed this trick was easier than I thought because the last trick that I learned also involved rotating the skateboard.

Heelflip

I achieved how to do the Heelflip by also watching many different tutorials. This trick was the hardest trick out of the 2. The reason for this is because the board spins 360 degrees. in the air. I didn't have many steps for this trick since the only thing I had to do was to kick my front foot forward when I performed an Ollie. This required a lot of practice in order to achieve it. I trained for 4 days but only recorded 2 of them.

The challenges that I faced in this project was that I fell many times and sometimes hurt myself and felt like quitting. Since I could not quit halfway my project I stood up and kept practicing. My achievement of this project taught me that by never giving up and always working hard you can do anything you want.

The third and final trick that I decided to practice was the Heelflip. This picture shows me practicing how to do this trick. As you can see from the way I am standing I did not land it.
